This One's Personal: A Thank You

My little sister, named Teacher of the Year for a Georgia school, asked if I would post the following note on my blog in thanks to those of you who responded to my previous request for books and gift cards to help her stock her classroom library. She teaches elementary school children with special needs. She says that your gifts have put her "in teacher heaven!"

Hello my sister,
I just wanted to say thank you to you and your clients for all of your support in my efforts to enrich the lives of my students. We recently completed an awesome project made possible by your donations. I was able to order a number of books that I have been interested in for sometime now, which cover issues of social and personal movements for freedom and equality. We read these pieces to foster critical literacy and made a number of individual and world connections. I was floored by the insight and creativity that was put into the creation of their book entitled Freedom or Not (a look at expressions of freedom and oppression in our school). To make the book, I gave them cameras and asked them to capture images reflecting the theme of the book. I wanted to empower my class to tell their stories. The results were priceless, and I want to share with you some of the quotes that were made over the course of our journey.

"I feel very good and I am so happy we are done and can see our hard work. I liked reading the books and making our own books by taking pictures around the school. I feel important and free." Jesse

"I like the book Freedom Summer the most. I liked taking notes while we read the books. Those books we read were cool! I thought it was cool to go around the school and take pictures of freedom. "
Jeremiah

After reading a number of books on civil rights and stories from Ellis Island-

"If you can't be in America because you're old, sick, Black, or poor- is America really free?"
Sean

"I thought that it was nice that ourr teacher trusted us to do this project because it was like an adventure just like the book we read Going Someplace Special."
Sara

Thank you again my sister for helping me get the resources I need in order to make my classroom a place for learning, exploring, empowering, and motivating. I love you, and I will keep you posted on future projects. Our next project is going to be about the role we play in saving our environment.

She also wrote the following personal note to a client who recently sent her a gift card:

Thank you for your donation to the "teach the children" efforts. I am extremely fortunate to have found a career that wakes me up at six in the morning full of excitement and passion. Because of your thoughtful gift, my students have been on an awesome educational journey. We have been studying the importance of critical literacy and how we can make both personal and social connections and changes. They recently completed a photojournalism project on what freedom means to them. This project led them to think about things in a manner which concluded in them having a new perspective on a word that once had a simple meaning. The connections between photography and literacy were inspirational to say the least.I am excited about continuing to expose my students to various forms of literacies and literature. On behalf of my class I would like to say thank you for helping me cross off a number of books from my wish list in order to make this idealistic concept a reality.

"This project was a fun thing to do. All of the books you read to us were interesting. They were all about freedom. Some of the books made me feel sad about all people not getting along."
Dakota

If you'd like to contribute to her class, please send your gift cards (Amazon, Barnes&Noble, Borders. etc) in care of MissOrleans @ gmail dot com or if you have books to donate to her classroom library, please email me and I'll give you information on where to send them.

You simply cannot fathom how happy your contributions have made me and how much pleasure I've gotten out of hearing my sister's excitement over her students' progress. This is such good work. Thank you.

Why I'm Thankful

Since it's Thanksgiving, I want to make sure that you know how grateful I am to all of you who have touched my life in a positive way this past year. Not a day goes by that I don't take a moment to appreciate how blessed my life has been and how fortunate I am to do this work.

To my clients: your presence in my BDSM journey is the best gift you can give me. I am so honored to have the privilege of playing with you. Your surrender inspires me, amazes me, and brings me so much joy. Thank you.

And a very, very special thanks to ... well, you know who you are.

Honey, I'm Home!

Jet lag is a bitch. Just needed to say that and get it out of the way. I'm glad to be home in New York again. Maybe now I can finally get some sleep!

Thanks -- mucho thanks -- to all of you who expressed concern, condolences, and offered your assistance in the recovery of my beloved BlackBerry. It appears to be lost in phone purgatory, never to return. I've filed the insurance claim so it looks like I'll have a replacement soon enough. But, oh! the bureaucracy!

My trip to London was outstanding. I was giddy with delight from arrival to departure. (My only regret was not being able to make it out to Manchester for a visit with LC ... so sorry, darling. Next time.) My visit to the Fetters showroom in Warwick couldn't have gone better. A lovely train ride (it's just under 90 minutes from central London) to the drool-licious premises. It was all I could do not to buy up everything in the store! The proprietors, John and Jan, and their excellent lead craftsperson, Jayne (formerly a leather detailer at Jaguar!) were so welcoming, knowledgeable, and clearly committed to quality .... You know how sometimes you don't mind paying a little more when you know you're going to be taken care of? That's what buying from Fetters is like. Just personal attention to detail from people who know what they're talking about and proudly stand behind their product.

So I got my sleepsack. With tit prick flaps, tightening straps, suspendable D-rings in every possible direction, and just every bit of intelligent design details you can imagine. And I bought (yes, Me. My money.) a suspendable strap cage (which you can kinda get a sense of in this picture). It's a hanging leather bondage device that can go vertical, horizontal, or inverted. I've never seen anything like it before. I can't wait to inaugurate it. Other nifties I picked up included a latex suffocation/breath play hood, leather face mask, suspension bar, and locking posture collar, all combined for a very, very heavy suitcase.

It should go without saying that my Fetters wishlist is far from fulfilled. If you're as excited by any of the below as I am, drop me a note. Maybe we can work together to make our fantasies come true.

Whipping Bench(the one I want has a headrest -- it's not pictured on their website but you can see it here)
Bondage Stool
Side Lace Hood (this item has been ordered! Yay!)
Anchor Point(this item has been ordered too! Thank you!)
Mailsack
Sleepsack suspension bar
Gas Mask and Bubbler
Multifunction Mask

I also want to thank MB, the Aussie, and RVD for their roles in making this such a wonderful experience all around. I'll have to pinch you all just so I know this isn't some amazing dream.

Now I've got a house full of new gear (almost forgot to mention, I also just acquired a complete violet wand set. Shocking, I know!). Who wants to play?!?
